    Default Autumn Wood Duck.

The Wood Ducks are looking rather spiffy this time of year, and the autumnal reflections in the water only enhance it all. I do have some full body images but went in for the plumage details here. Cracked corn used to get them closer.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, about 85% FF, toned down the glowing yellow BG, a few specks in the water cloned out.

Excellent details and colors in the Duck. The water color is beautiful, Daniel. I like the nice even light, no harshness.

This is terrific. The exposure and soft light helped nail the difficult exposure. The area on the bill is soooo hard to expose for correctly.
    Plumage details are excellent.
Wish we had wood ducks in Cape Breton.
    Well done,
    Gail

    Daniel:

Nicely captured, low angle, soft light, love the detail on the white breast flowers.

Our local (midwest) wood duck prospects once again aren't looking good. Nothing to shoot last couple of years. I will have to live vicariously.

    Look forward to more.

A beautiful bird and a beautiful image. I love the colors, the BG goes so well with the bird. Perfect detail and exposure as always. Thank you for sharing.

Wonderful shot! Love the low angle and the way the water ripples out behind the bird. The wood duck itself is beautiful!

Gorgeous, and good call on the BG yellows! What our sensor records and how the raw conversion software interprets it shouldn't always be taken to be How It Was.

A Technicolor marvel of everybody's favorite duck -- or at least mine. Wonderful light, color, detail. And good work getting him close. They're extremely skittish in my area.
