    Default Foraging in the Fog

    I came across several Black-necked Stilt frames that I had never processed; this one from Palo Alto Baylands last year. It was a very foggy morning. I used a Levels adjustment to boost the contrast on the bird, but left the mudflats and bg alone. The brownish back on this guy makes me wonder if he's a juvie. Maybe someone with more experience with the species can advise. Gotta love the bubble-gum legs.

    I like this a lot. Nice feeding behaviour pose, good comp, and I like the processing. I love the texture of the muddy surface. Looks like it could be a year bird, which would also explain the brown eye (rather than red).

    Bill;

    Great pose, I love all the diagonals going on. NIce comp, and I like the sense of fog you retained. Always tempting to make every image bright and contrasty, when in fact often the real world isn't.

    Cheers

    Yes I like it, the pose and the background are good, the details in the plumage are very good... and yes a nice pair of legs!

    Lovely image. The mud flat and fog set off the colors of the bird nicely. Your image makes want to go find a Black-necked Stilt to photograph. Thank you for sharing.

    Nice feeding pose, excellent details in the bird despite of the fog around. It is nice that you can see the eye and natural light in it. The foggy surrounding makes it special. Great work, Bill.

    Simply beautiful, Bill. Like the foggy weather and how well you captured this feeding pose. Nice PP work.

    Very nice.
    I love the dainty elegance of this bird. I like the pop of color the legs provide to the image.
    The little droplets of mud are nice as well. Great feeding pose.
    Good IQ and PP work,

    Just beautiful! I'm really new to birds and bird photography but I've already learned these guys don't stand still. Great to catch it with the bit of of food speared!
