    Default Great Egret.

I was sitting on a stone at the water's edge of this steep slope and tried to get low, when this bird flew so close that
I could barely fit it into the frame. (Full frame plus added some canvas to the top and right)
    I wished for the 300 f 2.8 that I no longer have.
Fortunately the active focusing point was set to the very top which helped. (was sitting on the neck)
    Thanks for looking.

Nice flight pose, with the head clear of the wing. Good job getting him into the frame, and having the focus in just the right spot. (Little wingtip repair on the far right?) Nice light, and I like the take-off splash. I also like the colors of the bg. With that bg you probably could have gotten away with a little more DOF, but no biggie.

Beautiful image Karl. I may have the bird here (Florida) but I do not have that background. The fall colors look wonderful with the white bird. Thank you for sharing.

    Hi Karl,
I like the IQ and the details in the whites. The wing position and clear view of the head make this image a keeper!
    The BG colors are great.
I would add more canvas on the top and right and clean up the wing tip repair a bit.
The droplets are always a nice touch. If this image was mine I would blend in the OOF grass ( whitish area) below the right wing.
A good shot Karl that could be made even better with a few tweaks,
    Gail

Super shot excellent plumage details and a really sharp eye, I appreciate it was large in the frame to begin with and you have added canvas but I think I would add a little more, super bird but for me a little large in the frame.

Thanks for all the comments. I tried to fix the problems Gail and Jon mentioned. Here is the reworked version. I added some more canvas and cleaned the water under the wing.

Wonderful! Beautiful pose with great separation of the neck from the wing -- very 3D!

Really great shot, other than the obvious clipped wing. Maybe try to do a shoulder style crop.
