    Default Addo Elephant

There were so many elephants at this waterhole in Addo Elephant National Park that I found it difficult to capture an image I liked until I started zooming in on the action and the detail of the drinking process. This is a small crop and the graphic quality seemed to say B&W. C&C encouraged and appreciated; thanks for looking.

Hi Katie - The conversion works well. For me the dripping water makes the image. Nice textures but maybe back off on the sharpening slightly. I do wish there was some detail and life to the eye but that is often difficult in elephant images. Keep them coming.

    Rachel

Katie, this is different and cool. I like the tonality and contrast in the image, the dripping was adds so much here. Well done.

I love the hair detail and dripping water, Katie. I agree about backing off just a little with thesharpening. I'm quite curious to know what it'd look like when you back off just a tad with the crop as well (showing a little more of the trunk at least - perhaps in a square crop) but I guess you've looked at that option before deciding on this version. Lovely detail!

The comp works great for me Katie and the dripping water makes the image! Addo is surely on my bucket list! A bit more of the eye itself would have added (maybe lighten it selectively)... I am a big fan of these close-up shots!

Thanks for confirming my lingering question about the sharpening; I'll be making that adjustment.

I like the contrast and textures here Katie. The curved trunk really adds a huge compositional anchor (golden mean and all that).
I usually prefer these shots to have all of the tusks included - a personal taste thing of course. Is this full frame as shot?

Thanks Morkel. This is almost full frame as I cropped some off the bottom and a just a small bit off the sides; I was too close to get all of the tusk in vertical view which was how I wanted to capture it. I'll have to go back and look at some of the earlier landscape frames; there are many as we spent some time at the waterhole.
