HEY! Don't you dare not post Mike! This is ' Eager to Learn' and everyone here wants to help and we all have a lot to learn too. You have to start somewhere and there isn't a better place so stick around and have fun, please.

You image is pretty, like the swans on the dark water, not a real easy exposure, ya did pretty well there. My thoughts are they are a bit too high in the frame. Give me a minute and I'll repost your image with a couple simple tweaks, just woke up:)

Ok here is my take and I'm sure others will have other suggestions, probably better than mine.
Not sure what program you are using to edit? But all I did was add some canvas to the top and right side and then a crop. There are several ways to add canvas, first you just crop the image bigger and then clone in extra back ground or you can use a quick mask. How comfortable are you at using image editing software? My skills are limited but certainly improving. There is a forum here Digital Workflow ( I think) that has tons of info as well as the Education Resources forum.

Hey, Mike!!! agree with Nonda!!!! we are all here to learn and man you are not far off here!!! there's some great people here that can help you become just as good as anyone else here!!! your swan pic is really nice.

a few things that i can suggest is for a situation like the swans if the reflection in the water isnt that good, bring the swans down in the frame and give a little more room above. and with those birds having such a big dynamic range of colors, black and white, the camera has a hard time photographing that whole range at the same time!! so you have to photograph in soft light in order to get the best results and still have detail in the bird!!

stick around!! i'm only scratching the surface and there's some more people around here that can guide you better than me!!! i'll do what i can, just dont ask me to ID birds!! just ask Nonda:D:D

    Hey Mike,
Sometimes I feel like that too, so you're not alone:) I'm heading out now and hopefully, I'll remember to apply what I've learned here.

Hi Mike Not sure what are you talking about You do know what are you doing The swans show good grasping of the photo techniques. It is a difficult situation with white birds and larg bg one very easy to miss and you got it !!!

This gallery is my favorite in the site for many reasons. Can give you a couple. One is the feel, no other has the feel of this one and seem to fell close to all participating. The other is learning. I do learn from replies of all involved since it opens your eyes to possibilities. The more you post the more you will learn.

With your image the one suggestions I can give you that will help is pose !! Difficult to make the bids look good facing you the way they are. Best to have some more of a side view. Also consider when going after multiple birds the depth of field. Normally we are wide open going after the eye. With two birds close to each other you want both sharp. If they are front and back then you don't have to worry and just leave the rear bird oof !!!! looking forward to many more !!!!

Mike, I think you did well on this one, I like the exposure and the background. I've been posting for a couple of months now and the comments and critiques from all have help tremendously. Keep posting your shots and at the same time let us know what you like and not like about our posts.
    Congrats
