Taken on a cloudy day. The water was grey so I started fooling around with Nik Efex Pro - B & W tool.
Left the eye the same color and cloned out a mosquito above the head.

This seems to work well in B&W and I like the POV, the reflection and red eye.

I agree with Jim on being a wall hanger. Nice image well executed, the little color in the eye says look at me. Thank you for sharing.

Works well in B&W excellent head turn and pose overall. Now it would be nice to see the colored version as well.

I don't often see a bird photo in b/w that I like, but this one is special. The pano crop works great in this case. A beautiful image, with great impact.

I would never have thought that this would work. Excellent thinking produced this beauty. I like the subtleties which give it so much texture and you have just the perfect amount of color in the eye. Congratulations!

    Gail:

Striking photo. Glad you kept the red. Only tweak I would consider is to soften the reflection before it hits the frame edge so it doesn't draw the eye out quite so much.

    Nicely done!

Hi Gail, great conversion, and love the mist across the BG. Well placed in the frame, sharp, and I feel the selective colour to the eye works well. Having said that, if the eye was larger, I dont think it would have worked as well. Congrats on trying something different and turned out very well.

Nice vision Gail and I think it turned out well. Only a few avian images are good candidates for a B&W IMO and this one works. The thing I like best is the mist in the BG and the keeping of the red eye. Very Nice.

Gail, did you go back up to Nome this year? Very nice image, being from the OOTB crowd, I love the framing
