Just off the brink of the upper Yellowstone Falls. Silver Efex for the structure and contrast, luminance blend, Topaz Adjust HDR Light Pop Grunge.

I think there is a warm spot underneath with the ice formed from the refrozen mist from the falls and melt from the hot spot.

    Thanks for looking.

    Cheers,

What a treat! (And we get to see it without being cold.) The composition is very nice; the curve on the bottom matches that of a golden spiral very well. At first, I wasn't consciously aware of the color, but it has a great impact. Very nice contrast in textures, too. This reinforces my hope to photograph Yellowstone in winter.

Wow! As a lover of Japanese prints, this one really appeals to me! The shapes are wonderful, as are the very delicate icicles. The subtle color is a great touch.

What would you think about lightening the darker areas on both sides? I want to just sit and drool at the detail in the center.

This is so rich in details that are all the more striking only in shades of white! Only on a laptop now and this needs to be viewed on my desktop with the larger screen. The graceful lower curve is a beautiful base for all those icicles, etc. above. The hint of green and the brown showing through are just the right touch of contrast. Well seen and captured!

    Dennis, Diane, Nancy,

Thanks much for your comments. They are much appreciated. I didn't mention that this is a two shot merge (PS photomerge). I was looking through my images to merge and these two were the sharpest (maybe cuz they were previously processed, uh duh). After I finished the OP, looking at it again I realized the top portion was actually a monochromatic rendering. The color transition seems to work, so... what a great idea ;-)...

    Cheers,

    Hi Michael,

This works really well. I can only repeat others' comments: the detail in the snow and icicles is striking and the whole image draws us into the scene.

Michael, I agree with Diane about it reminding me of a Japanese print. It's simply stunning.

I think this type of image is hard to pull off--and you did it. Lovely shapes and textures. What do you think of making the darks a b it darker, to give it just a bit more punch?

    Wendy, Cheryl, Hazel, Anita, Paul,

Thanks much for your comments. They are much appreciated. Anita, darker darks would add more contrast than I would be happy with... it was snowing when I took this shot and I was quite distant. The contrast here is about as far as my memory will allow ;-) Thanks for the idea, though.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-
