Original capture taken in 2011. The Ernie Day overlook in Piscataway NJ features a spillway at New Market Lake. Ducks will congregate here in the winter months if the lake is frozen over. Processing: DAP Aquarell blended with Topaz Impressions Pencil Sketch.

I like the action in the shot and the composition. Because of the title, it was obvious what was in the background, but I don't know if I would've figured it out without the title or the information about where the shot was taken. I wonder if reducing the DAP and/or Impression effect in the background would work.

I also like the action and the diagonal upwards flight of the duck. I see what Dennis is saying about being able to identify that the bkgd is a water falls. I like the abstract aspect but a version that is a bit less abstract would be interesting to see in comparison.

I like it, Randall. And I like the combination of DAP and Topaz. I like the background the way it is although maybe you could lighten it just a bit?

I think we are a bunch of photographers, who want to be painters. Great pose and details on the Mallard Randall. I might blur and lighten the background as I find it competing with the bird a bit. I like your choices of filters.

    Randall,

Greetings. The idea and the subject are interesting and eye catching. The background for my taste is too contrasty (black to white) with the wingtip to belly looking a bit like a halo (some judicious cloning would solve to break the line of white). I do like the diagonal composition and color against the bg. Thanks for posting.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Interesting position of the duck. I like the colors against the b&W bg. I might lighten the bg just a bit.
