    Default Black Bear

This curious bear is probably just in his 2nd summer and he found people and bird feeders quite interesting. I sat just outside my back door for this image and the response of the bear was to come towards me . For the safety of all of us we were forced to chase this darling away because once he grows up he won't be so darling anymore. Just this week in my neighborhood a black bear tore through a doggie door and helped himself to the contents of the refrigerator, once he knocked it over!

    Canon 1Dx, Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS @ 115mm, 1/500, f6.3, exp. comp. +2/3, ISO 2000, handheld with somewhat shaky hands.

    Comments & critiques most appreciated.

Awesome bear with the foliage adding to the image, well exposed, great detail on the face and lovely eye contact. TFS.

Hi Nancy - I thought it was going to be an image from Alaska not in your backyard! Great eye contact and detail where it matters. You've managed to make him look soft and cuddly. I might burn the bg on the left a little.

    Rachel

Hi Nancy very nice curious look of the bear .You handled the lightning quite well and you still have good tones and colors .
Have you lightened the shadows ? just wondering that much noise at ISO 2000 visible !

Hi Nancy, again, like the PB image, I quite like the choice of framing and the HA of the bear. Doesn't look like a small cub, so agree with your thoughts probably around 18 -20 months old, still trying to find his way, but agree not an animal you want later hanging around the back yard, but it is oh so tempting with all those lovely, enticing smells. Even so, I would have perhaps gone for a longer lens, 200 is a bit close for me.

Overall I think you did well with the backlit location, not easy, but the bear I feel has been lightened in parts, S/H or NIK, just my impression? The techs look about right, I would just darken the LHS as Rachel mentioned. Love the facial expression and alert ears.

Thanks all! Can't remember exactly if I used S/H on the bear. Not Nik. I'll work on the highlights in upper left.

Wow Nancy, what an opportunity, and how lucky you are to live so close to wildlife! I particularly like the expression here, you handled the lighting conditions very well and despite the somewhat "shaky hands" the IQ is great! Well framed and I so like the greens, this little chap really pops against the BG and this inquisitive look on his face really makes the image for me

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
