I'm trying out some setups for tanagers and hummingbirds in my backyard.
Let me know what you think of this Palm Tanager. Ripe plantains were used to bring them

    f/4, 1/800s, ISO500, Fill flash
Cropped, Levels, Curves, saturation, NR on background, smart sharpen on bird
Eye work: removed flash catchlight, darkened the pupil, levels to make it a bit brighter, and Sharpening.

    Kester:

A well crafted image with subtle flash, good pose, just enough rim lighting to give it a bit more snap.

I might try a version with a bit off the top. Yes, a bit more square that way, but the strong diagonals help soften that effect.

    Well done.

    Cheers

Lovely image it ticks all the boxes even the tail is the "right " side of the perch and of course he is singing. A good catch!

Well done but I would go for a slimmer perch with a bit more character... You boxy crop is perfect for the nice pose. EXP, SH, and head angle all perfect. Way to go!

Thanks everyone. I was considering a 1:1 crop, but wanted to give him room up top since he's slightly looking up.

I just used a stick I easily found in the yard, I'm going perching hunting tomorrow, Arthur :)

Happy perch hunting Kester...that is always fun! Neat singing pose. The image looks good and I can only echo the previous comments. Only thing is that, as posted, I feel the fine details could be brought out a bit more.

Yes. The bird is properly focussed, it just looks like it needs an after-resizing round of sharpening for the feathers. Could be just me though...
