Would you believe me when I say this is your best seal image to date! You have captured something very special and rather unusual here, and the presence of that second seal in the BG just makes this image for me. Perfect settings Andreas, those water droplets almost make it look as if there's a glass panel between the two seals, the water "crown" (like crystal) framing the head of the main character - it all comes together so nicely! Congratulations, don't know why you waited so long to post this, it is beautiful - congratulations!
Lekker slaap, dream of starry nights and lion roar and all things to come...
Great humorous shot Andreas, love the timing with the 'hair-do'! The low level works perfectly. I've asked around about Donna nook again this year, but the info is the same - the sandbanks are discouraged but available if you know what you're doing. Let me know if you're coming over.
All that stopped water action really takes this image over the top! The breaking wave, the water draped elegantly over the seal and those spraying water drops work magic together along with the front detailed seal and the back OOF one. Brilliant moment of seeing and capturing.
Hi Andreas - This is where the different tastes and opinions of the forum come into play and are great. Sorry, but I'm not in love with the overall image here. I do like the low pov and the other seal in the bg but for me you needed more ss. I'm not a fan of the some water sharp and some blurred. With the seal's sharpness, I think you needed sharp water all around. I find the blurred, brighter water right below the seal distracting. Just my $.02 and a personal taste thing.
Thanks all for your comments and suggestions , much appreciated .
I am with you Rachel .......... not every image is pleasing all eyes , so no problem for me , because i do not see a problem of distraction in here , just a matter of taste .
Hi Andreas, I like the overall warm colour palette and the comp kind of works but would like a tad more image content above, however...
To me the image appears to have a lot of NR applied, it's all very smooth (MKIV 1600 ) the subject appears sharp, but the water is not as crisp, as I would have expected at least some of it frozen like the face, but just my take.
Thanks Andre and Steve for your comments , much appreciated .
Steve sadly however i have no more space on top . Top and RHS are as shot .You are half wrong with NR , until the very last stage no NR at all . The water is just not sharp and detailed , as the subject itself, because of the slow shutter speed . Honestly i would have liked to go even slower for more motion blur in the water , but then comes the very big glass into play and the seal eventually moving .So i opted for a compromise .
I use smart sharpen for the final output sharpening , and you know there is a NR option , maybe it was set to a higher percentage , will have a look and repost with lesser NR , hope that explains the "softness " .
