    Default Dalmatian Pelican

Going back through some old files - having a bit of a clean out - liked this image from a trip to Lake Kerkini in Greece in February 2011.

Most days the light was very soft and the water very flat; we were able to travel out in the skiff to the reef where the Pelicans were preening and resting.

Canon EOS 1D Mk III, EF 500 f/4L IS, 1/320 sec, f/14, ISO 1250, tripod in the boat!

Converted in DPP, levels and curves, light touch of NR and Sharpening, single pass of USM on output.

    Comments and feedback appreciated.

    Thanks for looking, Gerald

Hi Gerald nice tight portrait with stunning colors and good detail .I like the overall comp .Looks nice for the MK III.
I might sharpen a fraction more if this was mine.
Good to go through old files from time to time .

Way to squeeze out some d.o.f. there by stopping down to f/14! The fact that you have the whole head (including the long bill) in focus is a huge plus. Even though a lot of the image is on the light side, my eye is still drawn to the birds eye ... awesome!

Nice portrait shot with good looking techs and details. I like the pop of red color in all that white. Well done

That is quite the hairdo, I love all those curls and textures. Perfect dof, very sharp details. I'm wondering if darkening the details on the lower part would improve things as I find that area very bright and pulls the eye. Overall well seen and executed.

Good job with the colors and the d-o-f. The bird's bill is angled ever-so-slightly away from you....
