Early Monday morning when I was at Circle B I found this heron at the inlet to one of the culverts. It was below me, the angle was wrong and the background would have been terrible. It was not bothered by my presence so I moved closer, got low and captured the head with the faraway vegetation as a background. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

Sounds like good field work on your part, and a cooperative bird, got you this nice image. Nice and sharp, good background. I think I would like some more of the neck showing, feels a bit truncated to me. But that of course is personal taste.
Well done on spotting the opportunity and going for it - the field craft you explain is what it is all about! Nice and sharp with awesome details. Yes to a tad bright, but not by much, and I could see a version with more room below and right, if you have it.
Cool head shot. This herons are quite photogenic and you have captured the essence of it. If anything, I would try to tone the hightlight on feathers a tad!
I agree, nice portrait with great detail but a bit bright. Maybe a third reduction would look good. Well done getting close to him.
