Found those two young lions on my last trip. Had much fun with them, except when they were sleeping than I usually took off and came back late afternoon, like here. They were between the bushes about 200-300m away from a waterhole…. sleeping (yawn), when I slowly approached one stood up and I saw my chance since he walked towards waterhole. So grabbed my thoughts and went off 200-300m and just waited. Lucky I was, they came towards me to the waterhole and all other cars following them step by step, when they finally reached me, well I took the best spot and did not move my "behind" at all, feisty (oh now they work again the smilies)

Forgot, the BG lion had a GPS collar on!

Anyway, I do have a series of them walking towards me, a bit against the late afternoon sun.
This one I liked a lot.

While processing some clicks went a bit off and this came out instead of a color version.

LR as usual, pulled in CC, levels, mid tones, lifted a tad more the shadows, than RH brain took over, went into Silver Efex and back out and went another route and this came out.
Cropped about 5-10% from the left. And Rachel no feet in this one either
Happy commenting, pull it in your PS if you think there needs to be more done, feel free and any suggestions good and bad are very welcome.

MK IV ISO 1250 ( honestly no idea why!!)
f/8.0 1/1600 they were on the move

Hi Anette - Love the conversion and you handled the back/side lighting well. I feel like the image is a bit unbalanced and the crop sort of in between. I would come in even further on the left, putting the in focus lion's eye on the ROT line and the oof lion in the center. Here's a rp with my suggested crop. The only other thing I would do is back off on the sharpening on the foliage sticking up on the right as it draws my eye.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hi Anette, Rachel has addressed my initial thoughts, primarily the crop. I very much like the DoF and the fact the OOF brother is looking to camera, but it's in a 'subtle' way if you know what I mean. Not sold on the B/W, why did you convert?

    Hi Anette

It pays to know your subject's behaviour and predict their behaviour, it works--sometimes

While we are in a cropping mode, how about this?
    Regards

    Andre.

Lovely conversion Anette and I prefer your framing. I am also enjoying the oof parts of the image. I think it adds to the image. Love these 'blondies'

    Hello Anette!

Cannot make up my mind which crop I like best, I think I prefer your OP. Lovely conversion and the lion in the BG just completes this image for me, the plants in the FG maybe a tad too sharp. I would love to see the colour version of this, if possible. And the other images you took at the time... this is just a taste of things to come, am I right?

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

    HI everybody,

sorry for the late reply, we had visitors over the weekend drinking the 1963 Port!!

Thanks so much for all suggestions, especially with the crop. I fav Andre's crop as well the most. Will 'test drive" it a bit more and see. I am sure it will be something like Andre's crop or square.
Steve, why B&W, because I like it that way much better than in color. It works in both, color or stripped off colors, sort of :))
I post the full frame in color, than you can have your goes, if you like. Toned down the highlights a tad more.

Again thank you very much everybody for all your suggestions

Have a great start into the week

    Ciao
    Anette
