Crop feels off? Not much of a crop since right outside the back door.

    Thanks for the critiques!

I have to agree with Gus. I like it as it is. Great colors in the bg and a nice closeup. Cool.

Love it. I am very comfortable with the crop. Much 'blue jay-ness' here.

beautiful bird ms nonda!! as far as the crop goes, i would crop some off the right, almost to the neck!! i think that might solve your problem. it almost makes it a vertical which i think may work a little better. be interesting to hear what the experts say though!!

I like the crop but would love to see the face just a little bit whiter or with more contrast between the light and dark. You got a great headshot and some killer BG going there!

The crop works for me. I'd be tempted to desaturate the yellows a little in the BG. Overall, a nice job!

I like the crop showing the beautiful backside of the bird. Would desat the yellows as suggested by Doug. Would also increase density on the blues as presented it seems a little washed out and does seem out of sync with the rest of the image.

Very appealing and beautiful. Very different from the usual partial body portrait !!! ..... must be all that training chasing the squirrels !!!! :D:)

toned down the BG and upped the blues, did this go far enough? Image was made in nice Ohio gloom, BG is Japanese maples that almost glow in the dark, did look off, but didn't notice till it was mentioned..THANKS!
    Chasing sqs is great exercise:p

Really a beautiful portrait of this bluejay, Nonda! You should be very pleased. I do think it looks better with the bg toned down a bit. That colorful bg does help the jay to stand out, though. I think the crop is fine, I like that it shows the whole breadth of the back/shoulders and even a few breast feathers down in the corner. Nice image!

    Hi Nonda,

Like your Blue Jay - we have "Flemish Jays" over here, but I haven't managed to get close to them - yet!

Have you upgraded the firmware on your M III? Have you noticed any difference in the speed of AF and the clarity?

Thanks folks. I'm rather fond of these rather snarky tempered birds.

Gerald, will send you and email on the firmware.
