This elk took a break from grazing to see what I was doing so I took her picture. Not a lot of DOF, she was probably less than 50 ft away. 7D, 400DO + 1.4xIITC, f5.6, 1/400s, ISO 1250, HH, full frame, removed small OOF white spot from nose, PP'd in PSE10.

    Hi Steve,

what a look of this one. Love the eyes, so nice done just wish the ears would be a bit more sharp, no deal breaker, as we cannot have everything! The BG is great as well with the colors and back light for the lovely ears.
    Very nice done.
Looks like that it nearly touched your lens :))

    Ciao

Hi Steve, quite unusual portrait , but works for me .
Nice detail and tones , love those eyes.Great clarity in them .I might think about reducing the reds , too strong in parts for me.

    Nice job , TFS Andreas

Hi Steve, a nice, quirky, portrait and something different, with the rich, vibrant BKG seems to fit in with the overall colour palette. I think having the 'shallow' DoF seems to draw you more to those eyes, so perhaps this was a good call rather than, if the opportunity allowed, more DoF to get the nose in too? Perhaps not having the 1.4 may have allowed more scope for cropping, or at least given more room below, as I feel it's a wee bit tight at the foot, as presented.

Hi Steve - It's all about the eyes and the rich colors here. Works nicely. In an ideal world I might want to rotate it ccw so that the eyes were level and there was a bit more symmetry with the ears in each top corner but because this is ff, you don't have the room to do so.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Steve when I first checked this out briefly a few days ago I immediately liked it and the way the eyes suck you in. Very well done. I like everything about. it You almost feel like you are nose to nose with it.
