I thought I would mix it up a little and post one from my trip last year to Svalbard. Taken from the beach while some walruses swam just off shore.

These guys always look so relaxed. I like the water droplets on the whiskers and the overall cool, grayish-blue tone of the image.

    Hi Rachel

Tight comp works with him being partially submerged.
Very effective POV an eye contact.
    Stunning detail.
Good exposure with good detail in both whites and darks.
Looks like the old man has had a couple of good rounds with all that scarring!
    Regards

    Andre.

    Hi Rachel,

almost forgot that I have such images too. I like it very much how you did this walrus. Not sure, I might would add a tad more Midtones to this great animal and tone down the highlights a bit more in the RHS tusk touching the water. Great image and calm water. We did not have such calm water!

Have a great day and weekend

    Ciao Anette

Hi Rachel certainly a character shot , well done .
Nice detail and color . To me it looks a bit thin in the tones , good suggestions by Anette in which i agree.

Hi Rachel, my first impression has been already highlighted, it looks a little flat tonally. I might also bring a bit more depth to the FG water with a Graduate filter. A little tight at the top, but good detail.

I think you have come a long way since this was taken, so I wonder what you would now achieve given the opportunity?

Thanks all, I'll take a look at the midtones and the water.

    Thanks again,

    Dearest Rachel,

I missed this somehow, and set aside mid tones etc., I have to say I am very taken with those massive curled whiskers, each and one of them ending with a water droplet... The composition is great and plenty of detail where it matters, love the battle-scarred skin and those impressive tusks emerging from the water - wonderful capture, enjoyed viewing

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
