Just a simple Great tit - not too much exotica around my way at the moment, so I've been out testing my new (to me!) big white

Hi Mike - very nice, with lovely sharp details. Silky smooth background. Great eye contact. I perhaps wish for a greater DOF so at least some of the branch was in focus. Nice image though.

Nice subject, BG, comp. Perfect head angle. A bit of fill flash could have helped with the darker blacks on the face, and to my eye the top part of the head could use a tad more sharpening.

    Mike:

Good input from Simon and Daniel. I was also struck by the DOF, or lack thereof. Just a bit more to keep the entire head in focus would have been nice(f/5.6). THe OOF perch is OK for me, as it gives an illusion of greater depth in the image. Nice pose, and I like your shooting angle.

    Cheers

I like the details and pose. The BG is beautiful too although It could use just a bit of NR IMO.

Hi Mike you will be more than happy with your Big White .
Nice starter with good colors and tones , hence the black in the face.Nice detail and BKG , i am 50/50 on NR . Sometimes it looks too artificial with no grain , saying this because coming from the good old film days .
    Nice comp , too.

Hi Mike, good angled pose and I do like the plumage detail on the back and wings. Another vote for some selective sharpening on the head, and some NR on the BG wont harm the image.

    Congrats on the new lens.
I don't have much to add to the previous comments except to echo the NR and the lack of DOF.
Looking forward to more pics with the " new bad boy/toy"

I like the pose, feather detail, perch and BG. I would have went with a higher ISO for more DOF. Congratulations on the new lens.

Thanks everyone, I always appreciate the comments. Regarding the DoF, unfortunately I was struggling for light (as per usual around here!), so whilst I agree with those views, it would have been at the expense of SS or ISO. Decisions decisions...!
