    Default Spring friendly piper

At this time of year when walking in wooded areas we don't look down much when stalking the woodland birds. Good thing I did this time as a Least Sandpiper was foraging between the dirt seen here and the tall grasses on either side. It was as non-chalant as can be and allowed quite a close approach - actually it approached me to the point that I just lowered the lens and watched as it was too close at times (MFD on the 100-400 is ~6 ft.)

At first the streak of sunshine behind the bird bothered me but it soon grew on me and now think it gives a nice effect. Thoughts?

    Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, 1/200s., f7.1, ISO640, metered off chest at -0.3EC, fill-flash set at -0.3FEC, handheld.

I like it too, Daniel. The pose and composition are good, the bird is sharp, and the light is very nice. I'm OK with the streak of sunlight. I've seen these little guys this tame on the tundra breeding grounds, but not further south.
