    Default Shorebird Migration Almost Done

    Attached Images Attached Images

Today in Ottawa the temperature this morning was barely 39F, most of the warblers are gone through, the odd shorebird is still around...I hate what's coming around the corner.

This photo was taken last week at a local hotspot for shorebirds, as this Lesser Yellowlegs walked by, I took a 30 image burst, hoping to get a raised leg.

I took the image and converted it to B & W but the image wasn't to my taste, so I masked the original yellow legs back in, creating this high key image.

    Thanks for looking.

I like the black and white with the yellow legs. The composition works very well vertically, but I'd crop some off the right if it were mine. It looks good as is, however.

I love the high key look and the yellow legs rock. Why not move the bird back in the frame just a bit?

Though I would not bet my life on it I believe that this is a juvenal Greater Yellowlegs. The bill is easily 1 1/2 times the length of the head and it is two toned. The latter screams "greater."

I like this so much I went back for a sixth look and realized that making the BLACKs a bit blacker might really make this sing.

Wonderful! It evokes a pen and ink drawing. Agree with Dennis' and Artie's suggestion on the crop. Clueless as to what it might be.

The position of the legs is very nice. Your burst technique worked well. I also like the colorful legs with the rest B&W--subtle. Nice reflection. I agree with the suggestion to add more black, and to do some cropping, especially off the right. I love the high key look, and subtle water.

I was not suggesting a crop ;). I moved the bird back in the frame in about 5 seconds using techniques from APTATS II.
