    Default European Golden Plover

Image from Iceland trip in 2012. Shortly after arriving at this beautiful setting on an overcast day, it started to rain. The light and vegetation was so nice, and the Plover so beautiful, I didn't mind the rain. C&C welcome.

    D3s, Nikon 500mm, 1/800, f 9.0, ISO 800, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley Gimbal head.

Did a bit of eye work in cs6.

what a wonderful color palette! Love the perfect HA and the bent leg. The BG colors are so complimentary to the plover.
I would like to see more room above the plover and take some away from the bottom and LHS.

Good image design suggestion by Gail. Note that the BKGR is more pleasing than the o-o-f foreground grasses, so why not include more of the BKGR by pointing the lens up? I'd go for a bit of selective sharpening on the face followed by lightening the face a bit. Nice bird, good EXP, and sharp overall.

Beautiful image, Geoffrey. The tundra colors of the background are a lovely compliment to the bird. Good suggestions from Gail and Artie, which could make it even lovelier. Birders in New Jersey are racing around to the sod farms right now, trying for distant scope glimpses of this species in non-breeding plumage. What a treat it must have been to see him up close, in breeding plumage.

Hey Bill, This may interest you. Or not. There was a Whiskered Tern at Bunker Pond at Cape May State Park today....

Yes, I heard about it, Artie. I was three hours away, hoping that the north wind had brought fall warblers to some North Jersey venues, but alas they did not materialize. A Whiskered Tern would be nice indeed.

Looks a grand shot to me. Interesting head angle too. Some good points raised too.

I like the pose, details and the BG, the elements in the lower left corner of the foreground are a bit distracting, I would crop more from the bottom.
