Another from last weekend. The pickings are slim this year with virtually no shoreline along the Ottawa River, except for local public beaches where one can go to early in the morning before beachgoers arrive. There are usually just a couple of shorebirds there during that time, which is more than enough to keep me busy and happy...so with that, here is another of the Semipalmated Plovers that kept me entertained on a wet and rainy morning.
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, cropped fro composition, some pieces of beach debris removed, eye work (darkened pupil, lightened iris, enhanced eyering).
Nice to see a close, in focus capture of this cool bird that seems to me to be perfectly placed in the frame. I have seen them migrating thru in a few places in No California lately, but could not get close enough for anything but an id photo ( life bird for me this year). It is special seeing detailed feathering of birds we could never get close enough too without photos like this! I have learned to accept removal of some debris when it distracts from an image, as you have done here.
This is lovely Daniel.
Nice, soft diffuse light. Love the colors and the low POV. Your usual great IQ.
If I had one wish it would be that the red circle intersecting the tail wasn't there. That area pulls the eye away from the plover.

The diffused light really made this one special, along with your solid techs. The direct stare, the habitat in the BG and the little beads of water on it's back all make for a pleasing Image. Nice work

Hi Dan, excellent exposure and I really like the soft light in this. Nice angled pose, and I do like how we can see a few droplets of rain on his back. Cool BG too.
