Yellow Margin moray eel

Hi everyone, not had much time to comment on peoples images recently - I'll rectify that shortly, as there is some very impressive shots knocking around.
This little fella is a yellow margin moray eel shot in Hurghada, Egypt. As ever they look fierce and as always you have to take your time with them, then quite often you can get nice and close - this would have been shot at less than one metre, and after the slow approach I could spend as much time as I wanted with him.
I chose this frame due to the 'down the barrel' stare, so although it's not got the open mouth pose so often desired, hopefully the stare makes up for it.
Techs wise, it was taken with a canon 7d, 60mm macro, ISO 160, 1/160th at f10, camera in a subal housing with 2 x inon z240 strobes. A couple of bits of backscatter have been cloned out, but with all the sand on him I didn't want to remove everything, as I liked the sandy crown. Maybe a little more dof could have been used but I wanted to reduce the background as much as possible as it is a little messy

This is truly amazing Mike! The pose is fantastic and this is such an eye grabber! A powerful image and I love the colours, I am quite in awe of the underwater world and there are so few images on this forum portraying it! Well cropped and presented, enjoyed viewing
, kindly share some more if you have...
Kind regards,

Hi Mike,
uuuh uh a sea monster, great eyes for sure, a bit dof yep could have it. Love the sand on top of it's head. That colors are great, just back from the Great Barrier Reef you handled the color great. I only have GoPro shots what passed my way or swam along my side. Sadly in JPEG! Anyway, I do love the pose of this one very much and the staring eyes. Very well done.
Have a great evening
ciao Anette

Hi Mike - Another great underwater image, well exposed and colors look great. I agree with your self-critique about a bit more dof to take this to the next level, but still would be thrilled to have taken this. Perhaps I'd prefer a little bit more room all around in an ideal world.

Never attempted this before but having done some diving I would imagine it is pretty difficult to do given buoyancy issues and the fact that your ss is quite slow. WD. Like the framing - great eyes and colours too Mike.

Thanks for looking and commenting everyone, much appreciated.
Carl, we can quite often get away with slower shutter speeds underwater due to the use of flash, and creatures like this tend to move quite slowly (unless feeding of course!)
Rachel - there is a bit more room around the image but I though the tighter version worked well for this months theme
