I don't often include the hand of man as a major element in my images, but here is a Caspian Tern that was hanging out on a parking lot east of town a couple of weeks ago (the same one that I posted a tight portrait of back then). It's not often one can get so close to one of these, so I was happy with the opportunity - pavement or not! The trick was to manoeuvre the tern away from the yellow painted lines and gull white-wash for a cleaner image :-)

    Daniel:

Sharp, well exposed, open bill, slight head turn, all good!

Your subject isolation almost lets you think it is an extremely uniform gray beach!

    Cheers

The pose is nice with his head turning slightly towards you, exposure and sharpness are great. I don't know if I like that the bird is cut off behind the legs but that's something I can think about, which is good

    Cheers, Tom

These are such beautiful terns, and his red-orange bill really dominates this. The pavement is a non-issue. Nicely done.

The pavement isn't ideal, but this image is very well executed! Open beak, separated legs with details down to the toes, and good detail in both the blacks and whites (hard to do on these guys with much sun). Well done.

It may be a parking lot but the color is perfect! I love the detail in a portrait like this. Not easy to do in a black and white bird.

Hin Dan, well exposed here, and love the open beak. Interesting choice of crop, but the more I look at this, the more it works for me.
