    Default Seeking Refuge

This image was taken this am. The baby stilts were born yesterday but had a very rough beginning as almost immediately a large soft shelled turtle found the nest and the two new born. Two eggs had hatched, the third had not. Within just a few hours the two babies swam to another small island to find protection and remained there through the night. This am around 9 o'clock the parents decied to move the two chick s and they began to swim across the water and under the boardwalk to seek refuge on another little island. Unfortunately seconds before this picture was taken one of the babies went missing and has not been seen since. We are sure it was a turtle. Now the one in the picture is the sole survivor. They fight so hard to survive as do their parents.

I wrote in a thread I am allergic to too sweet photos. But how could I resist a photo and a small baby like this. I like the photo very much. I have nothing to complain about.

Cute for sure, and sharp. The odd thing is that to me it looks as if the bird has been cut and pasted in front of the tree. Not sure why or if others see it that way. Love those huge footsies.

Thanks Artie for your comments. I am not sure what you see that makes it look like it was pasted but I have several images at the base of this tree before it eventually started out swimming again to find a better area for protection. This was one of the only images that did not have one of the parents in view. The only editing I did on this image was levels , curves, and one pass of USM and I also cloned out some of the debris in the water.

The mood fits the sad story. Maybe a tad less contrast.

As I said, strange. Maybe its the fuzz (against the water). Or maybe it's my tired old eyes!

What a sweet looking image Judy! I like that puzzled look on his face, and that little flower adds anice touch to the image!

How cute, yet how sombre. I appreciate the accompanying story behind this poignant image.

Hi Maxis. Many thanks for your comments. This was taken at Wakodahatchee this week. There is another nest at Green Cay but has not hatched as yet.

nice shot Judy Lynn, maybe a split second sooner, and the bird would be more seperated from the stump., I really like it either way.
