    Default Portrait of Curve-Billed Thrasher

Inspired by Daniel's portrait series a while back, I took the time to get close to this guy (who was very cooperative). I moved around to get different backgrounds. If i got too close, the angle to the bird was too steep (and i was able to get to within MFD), so I backed up and decided cropping later was a better choice.

    Miguel:

Excellent eye, like the horizon line. Open bill, exposure.

Wish there was a bit more DOF, but not easy with this much lens and close distance.

I don't know this bird, but appears to have a bit of a green tint from environmental reflection.

    Cheers

Creating portraits of birds is fun eh!! Love the comp and sweet light. Yes to more dof for the flanks but the face is oh so sharp. Are those stains from berries?

I love the close up detail and the warm light. The slightly open bill is good as is the clean background, nice image Miguel.

Love the great eye contact and the incredible sharpness in the head. More DOF would have been nice, but I'm not sure you could have pulled it off at 700 mm and MFD.
