Shook off the dust of the lens and went out to a local 'hot-spot' for these thrashers. The hard part isn't getting them out on a perch, it's getting them to the perch that you want! There are cacti everywhere and they pick and choose without regard to the photographer's composition. I was happy to have this one model for me for a good 15 minutes. I got in close for some portraits, backed up for some more environmental shots, and stayed at mid range for a shot like this. Can't complain about these cooperative subjects.

What's not to like! Beautiful earthtone color palette and the light is superb.
I like the vertical comp and that great head turn.IQ is excellent.
I would consider cloning out the side branch of the perch but not a big issue for me. I could also see a comp with a bit off the bottom.
Wonderful image,
Gail
The light could not be any sweeter, nor could the background. The lower part of the perch doesn't add anything (to my eye), and I agree with Gail regarding a crop from the bottom. Wonderful image!
Dosnt get much better than that! The light and the angle of the light on the subject are perfect. The look back pose, the eye contact, the great looking perch and the sweet BG all make for an exceptional image.
Well done Miguel.
