Took this about 2 minutes before the sun set so the image accurately reflects the brightness.
I could go brighter if enough of you pushed me in that direction!
Taken at the beach in Ingonish, cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
    canon 1 DX 600mm and 1.4x
    ISO 800 f 5.6 SS 1/2500
PP: Crop, basic adjustment sliders in LR then off to photoshop for NR to BG, I cloned out a specular highlight on the bill and a bright big one in the seaweed in front of the bird. Levels, Detail Extractor to bird at 3% and USM to JPEG.
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,
    Gail

Technically excellent image Gail. I like the consistent color scheme. Brightness looks perfect to me. I might be tempted to remove some of the stand-alone OOF circles in the foreground.

    Well done!

Beautiful sandpiper shot. I like the sloping ground, the raised foot, and the lighting. I wouldn't touch anything. I'm wondering if this might be a White-rumped Sandpiper: wings extending beyond tail, and a possible hint of the signature marking at the base of the lower mandible.

Hi Bill, I did wonder about it being a white-rumped myself but felt the supercilium wasn't distinct enough. Would love to hear others thoughts on this. I am a terrible "birder" so I tend to think you are right!

IQ is wonderful, Gail. The light is just right as well the exposure. If that's an old rusted iron slab under the bird, it works perfectly with the BG, and adds to entire image.
