Snapped at one of our reserves. The buffalo bull was standing right next to the rhino's regular 'marking spot' and held its ground as the rhino came closer to 'renew its mark'. Then followed a stand-off as each summed up its opponent. After about 15 seconds the buffalo made the wise move and walked off non-challantly. Whether he realised it or not - the damage that could be done to him by this rhino horn is quite evident...

The grasslands appear to be longing for our first spring rains as much as I do. Had enough of this dry winter already!

Some pp done in LR & PS to reign in reds & handle sharp sunlight from the front & top. A little bit of sharpening (USM).

    All C&C's welcome.

Hi Tobie - interesting behavioral shot and great to see the two sizing each other up. Love seeing that huge horn and hopefully the rhino is well protected. Looks like the light was harsh. If it were mine I would burn the grasses and back off on the sharpening of the grasses as they draw the eye. Watch the sharpening halo, particularly around the rhino's horn.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hi Tobie, very nice capture of both. The rhino and buffalo have a touch to much of magenta/purple, I might would reduce this. Juts me and it is a taste matter of course.

    Have a great day

    Ciao
