    Default Snowy Owl Gliding In.

A bit slow-going as far as outings go lately (which I hope to remedy soon as I am missing the shorebird migration!!!), thank goodness I have lots of files I have never processed before for such times. Here's one from last winter's impressive Snowy Owl irruption. Taken on a very cold afternoon with Loi as a guest.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2500s., f/7.1, ISO 400, natural light, handheld, small image rotation then cropped for composition, baited.

I love the light on this image. Great exposure and as always ,great IQ.
I also appreciate the subtle shadow of the owl on the snow.
I like the inclusion of the trees and bushes at the top of the frame. I just wish they were lower in the frame with less white snow between the owl and the forest. An easy fix with the move tool in photoshop if you felt so inclined
    but very nice as is,
    Gail

I haven't been on this site in quite some time but I am here now and I have noticed something screwy in the bottom right? A white sliver that looks like Photoshop canvas, maybe?

Great image Daniel. Awesome white on white. Did you have to clone out the bait for this one. or does the bird fly this low as it approached and the bait is out of the frame?

Great exposure on whites, love the background and the 'just about to land' pose with widespread wings and visible talons. Nice shot indeed!

Super image Daniel. I love the light you get off the snow, it's like fill flash under the wings. I think Gail is on the right track regarding the dark part of the background, it causes my eyes to flick up and back to the owl in a distracting kind of way. Regards, Ian.

    Thanks guys!

Jack, I forgot to fill in a small gap after image rotation....thanks for pointing it out!

Gail, funny you should mention that as I contemplated finishing an alternate version doing just as you suggest But I do like the comp here too as I feel it is balanced to my eye...

Nice low level flight and great on the white exposure

Good tail spread too and like the subtle shadows

Would like to see your RP with the lower trees

Magnificent image of "Sweet Smiling Owl". Love the wing spread and tail feathers.
    Beautiful composition.
