Spent a few days in Fair Isle UK doing some underwater marine surveys. The place was teaming with marine birds including a large colony of Northern Fulmars
Here is one image from the first day on the Island. The bird was passing over the southern side of the island early in the morning
Hi Shane, excellent exposure, and how is that wingspread - these guys seem to have very long wings. I suppose to soar over the oceans for long periods of time.
I like the techs on this image and really like the exposure on the whites.
I think it is so amazing to see (or should I say not see) the legs tucked in to allow for great aerodynamics.
Nice and sharp. Great wingspread. The only thing you could improve upon is the plain blue BG.

Thanka guys. Stuart they are very powerful fliers and will flap their wings continously until they start riding the updrafts created by winds over the surface of the sea.
Gail i have noticed on a number of cold climate seabirds that their feet are hidden completely. I am more inclinded to think this is to protect them from the cold as opposed to aerodynamics. Maybe someone can confirm
