    Hi Guys

I noticed earlier today that the wild life theme was 'close ups..' 'Yes' I think and immediately knew what image to post, not so sure however if it should be B&W or colour. I'm a librian and decisions like this are tough, so I posted both...Please only comment on one however, no double dipping by me.

This fine lady is another member of the Perth Zoo from a recent safari in that direction... Not sure what the tears are about but I guess Kleenex are tough to use with a trunk. Taken in subdued afternoon light.

    500F4 & 1D4 with a big Gitzo and Winberley 2 head.
    1/400 sec at F6.3, ISO 2000
Mainly processed in ACR adjusting levels and WB, but I did spend a little time in PS trying to remove a band across the bottom of the image from the cables surrounding the enclosure.. Not completely successfully I might add. Selectively sharpened in NIK. The B&W was also converted in PS and then I used the exposure/gamma tool to add a bit more contrast.. this is almost full frame, just a bit off the bottom and RHS.

Hi Don - No problems posting the same image in color and b&w to find out which people prefer. I much prefer the color version of this one and to see the color of the eye. You've brought out nice detail and textures. The frame filling comp works well. If it were mine I might open up the midtones but just very slightly.

    TFS,
    Rachel

I am with Rache on this one on all counts. I particularly like the placement of the eye in the frame.

Hi Don , like this a lot .Nice position of the eye and the most important thing that the eye is so clearly visible.
Agree with Rachel about the mid tones .

    Hi Guys

Thanks for all the comments and input... its always a pleasure to be posting in wildlife. I actually prefer the colour version too but thought I would put the B&W out there and see... In this RP I have selected the mid tones using an action I wrote based around the article by Tony Kuyper on luminosity masks. I then shifted the levels up by 15%.. The difference is pretty subtle but I thought little adjustments were all that were called for.

    best regards to you all
