We often get young Elephants trying to bully or chase us away. You can see by the posture...Head up, trunk flicking,(I do have shots of the trunk up, but the trunk is OOF)

    Thanks for looking

Hi Dumay very nice and cute head on charge by the youngster hope you got not ran over by him/her .I really like the typical pose in this situation .
Nice tones and detail/sharpness. The image does look for me a bit on the magenta side and the dead space on the sides are a tad too wide for my feeling .

Thanks Andreas, maybe a portrait crop would work here. I did drop the purple and magenta hugely during processing as the RAW had a lot of those tones coming through. I am feeling frustrated with my PP work as I am looking back at old processed images and I feel they were over processed, too much saturation, too much warmth, too much sharpening. I have tried new things and feel it so far its not really working looking at peoples comments. I seem to be getting critiques I have never gotten before regarding colours and the likes.

Hi Dumay sorry to hear from you that you are feeling frustrated , no need for that i feel .
You cannot make all happy at ones, and i think colors are subjective , and honestly you get mostly good comments , my feelings .

Regarding this image , i think you have the "wrong" WB as starting point . and then the colors are coming "off" .

Keep trying new stuff in PP and stand the crits ......... i do not know how many times i changed my parts of my workflow and still getting crits i do not understand from time to time. But it is just very subjective ......... depending on the artist and the viewer

I personally would go for 5 x4 crop but also a portrait crop would work if IQ allows.

    Cheers Andreas

Thanks Andreas, not taking it personal...just voicing my personal frustration at my own struggles.
I have reposted...I have warmed the white balance, reduced the red, and the magenta channels again, left the purple at -15. Changed the crop as IQ did allow. Lets hope it works better.

Thanks for the words of encouragement

Hi Dumay - Repost looks good to me. Nice detail and the vertical comp does work better. I would have preferred more room below and less on top but in the heat of the charge this can be tough to accomplish, especially when you also have to worry about your guests and starting the vehicle if it is not a mock charge!

As for your pp, I think you are being too hard on yourself. Your images continue to have excellent IQ and sometimes it just takes an extra set of eyes to see something subtle. Also when you have already made an adjustment and think it is enough, inevitably someone else will suggest that you take that adjustment further. As always, a lot of things are completely subjective and down to personal taste. In most instances, you were the only one there so know the lighting and color best. Keep 'em coming.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Dumay the crop does look good to me .
Still feel the colors are not just "right" , ,meaning i still feel it is too red/magenta for an overcast day , remember what i said all personal preferences .
Took the liberty and adjusted color/tones a bit like i would if this was mine , you have the advantage to know what the colors look like on location so mine are more subjective than yours. And i have chosen another crop .

    WDYT ?

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Dumay, I'm on my iPad, so will refrain from commenting on the colors. I too felt pretty frustrated with colors until I listened to Steve and invested in a calibrated monitor. It's expensive, but considering how much time we spend on PP, $ for $, it's worth it if you have it. Each one of us has a different perception of colors and depend on our monitor we see them differently. I find it difficult to globally adjusting colors in LR during RAW conversion. Mostly I stick with the options As Shot to Auto and make small adjustments of temp and hue and they work OK most of the time. If you feel frustrated, my suggestion is to stick with the basic! Loi

I like all three crops of this cute animal. My favorite part of the image is the fine detail of the forehead and the upper part of the trunk.

Dumay, I like all these crops (but quite prefer your OP) of this cute youngster. Your sharpness and detail are spot on here.
I also have a personal thing for magenta in elephants and green in leopards (which often happens on overcast days in the Lowveld). Your first repost looks better to me, and Andreas' repost looks too green to me. But that does not detract from this lovely youngster for me. I love seeing you post again on the forum!
