Post processed in Lightroom 5 and Photoshop Elements. I used the paint brush at a low opacity, picking the green of the background to smooth out a few dark areas.

Not an easy bird to get out in the open so good job there. I like the good eye contact and the bird looks nice and sharp. Even though the perch and its placement isnt ideal, it's good that we can see it's feet.
I might suggest toning down the brightness a little, or maybe add a little black to just the bird only. Nice capture.

    Joe:

Agree with David, re: brightness. Like the stretched out neck, and the angle of the perch helps. I might consider removing the one stick pointing at the neck.

Certainly could try a vertical because of the pose of the bird and angle of perch.

    Cheers

Hi Joseph, what a cool looking stare - certainly alert. I quite like this comp, but a vertical would work too. If this were mine, I would reduce the yellows in the BG, I believe it would tone down the image nicely.

Thanks everyone for viewing, commenting and offering suggestions. I appreciate your time and interest in helping me improve. Here is a vertical as has been suggested.
