    Default Egret Shadow on Ellie

I know the whites are totally blown on the egrets but the goal was to capture the shadow and the ellie details at a moment's notice.

Taken at Duba Plains, Botswana, Linyanti River channel, early evening July 30.

    Canon 6D
    Zeiss 80-200mm manual lens @200mm
    f/8 1/4000 ISO 800
HH and manual focus from boat

    C&C welcome. I'm just trying. . . :)

Hi Edward, it is certainly a different concept. For me the shadow is too small to be the main subject of interest. Not sure how you could have pulled off such an image. Loi

Hi Ed - I'm not sure how you feel about cloning (and I generally do not clone myself) but I think for this one to work you need to evict the 2 egrets. Our eyes are naturally drawn to the brightest part of an image and here that's the 2 blown egrets. Without them the ele and shadow will draw our attention more. Nice detail on the ele. I would also consider cropping good portion of the blank sky out and going to more of a pano comp. Keep 'em coming. The processing does look better on this one.

    TFS,
    Rachel

I am on the other side of the fence here Edward, I like the idea you were going for. I can see the creative aspect and I like the blue sky and space above. Yes you mention the blown Egrets, but I like the shadow. Its different and if you like it, thats what counts.

Appreciate your comments, everyone. All good and many thanks!

Hi Loi, I was firing burst mode when I saw the scene. Good subjects, deep but bright light, something unusual going on. I had no idea how it would "work" later. I had an idea and I tried. :)

Rachel, good points and I agree now that you mention it. I'm not a big fan of cloning except to clean up minor blemishes and not to change the scene or mood. I'll play around with it.

Dumay, appreciate it and glad you recognized my feeble attempt beyond just another capture of an ellie in the grass. :)
