These guys are always on the move, so keeping still for a decent portrait isnt easy, especially shooting from a car. I did managed this angle after waiting for the right moment. Taken in our Kruger National Park a little while back.

Beautiful, as clear as crystal against a soft BG, Stu - I think a lot of ladies would kill for those eye lashes!

Looks like you beat me to it Stu. Been working on one to post too. With the winter grass it provides a beautiful bg bokeh. Done well with late morning/midday light. Great detail and nice portrait. WD

The main point of this image for me are those eyelashed and impressive bill. Well done. Even the shadows created by the eyelashes are interesting.

Hi Stu - Great detail against a creamy bg. Love those eyelashes. Good use of dof too. This ticks all the boxes for me.

Hi Stu, you seem to be the Master at nailing this species, cracking detail as ever and I always remember the one you shot I think on the road a few years back, stonking. If possible a bit more below to encompass all the red 'throat' would have been good, but appreciate the parameters of fixed lens. Nicely exposed in not ideal light, I'm sure there will be many other opportunities in the future to expand your portfolio on this subject.

    Stuart Sir,
Join the party quite late. All has been said. Marvelous close up with great details.
I love the shadows of eye lashes too. Every thing is perfect in the frame.

    Regards,
    Satish.

Stu, this is really nice. Agree with you reg how difficult it is to capture the perfect head shot as they shy away from the pointing lenses! Nice detail and colors.

Great looking portrait Stuart. I love the colors and textures in this guy and you did a great job with the techs. The cherry is those awesome eyelashes and the shadow they cast on the eye. Well done
