This pair was imaged recently in northern Michigan. The juvi is in that very awkward transition phase, where the brown fuzz is falling out and slowly being replaced by feathers. It seemed like the parent was comforting him.

Wonderful image, even if the youngster is in what you generously called the "awkward" phase. The adult is gorgeous, and you're a master at capturing that lovely subtle iridescent green on the head. Thanks for sharing.

    Randy,
What a beautiful moment this. Love the exposure on both and the nice colour rendition. Great low angle adds to this. TFS.

Beautifully captured and presented, Randy. It's difficult to perfectly image these interactions, and this one is special. I love how the youngster is featured here (5-6 weeks old?). Wonderful work showing the eye color of both the baby and the adult... the neck iridescence is great.

Hi Randy this so nice with great IQ . Love the overall colors and tones. Low POV and great deals . Only little nit for me is it looks a wee bit tight ,from bottom and top.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and advice

Andreas: I have no more room above, but could obviously add some. Do have room below, so will revisit this one.

Sandy: This one is a bit older, and not growing as fast as I would expect, so I hope he makes it.

It was a very sad year for loon chicks, as 3 of the 4 nests I follow failed.

    Cheers

Hi Randy, your usual low angle capture - great eye level perspective, and just love how the youngster is tucked beneath the beak of the parent. I do like the exposure on the head of the adult, as it has brought out the iridescence so well. The blues and greens of the water round off the image nicely.

Hi Randy, very engaging, love the colour palette, but it's the low POV that really makes it for me, as you are at eye level, adding more contact with the viewer.
