I thought I'd post a similar shot to what I posted yesterday but this time of a Wild Dog. This was the same day that the pack had been playing in the water but we went back at the start of the afternoon drive and they were all resting (same afternoon as Steve's image from a couple of days ago).

    Canon 5D3
    300 II
    1/800
    f7.1
    ISO 1600
Beanbag from safari vehicle, slight crop for comp, levels, curves, selective color adjustments, sharpened in CCPS.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Nice POV here Rachel.
My what perfect teeth you have! I gather this WD is not much older than a year or two by the look of those pearly whites,..................the perfect predator.

Terrific shot. Cute. Funny. Yet extremely dangerous. You caught some great light on those formidable teeth.

So its a yawning theme for you the last few days, great detail and superb exposure on those teeth. You have handled the dappled light well....Nice portrait.

Nice display of those canines Rachel. You have kinda made a 'theme' of the wide open series :-) I am tempted to post a few of my shots from my Masai Mara trip! Great handling of the light and comp.

Thanks Marc, Ed, Dumay and Sanjeev. I think that's it for now from the "open wide series." Sanjeev - feel free to post yours.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel , yes wide open . Those teeth are looking dangerous and can rip stuff apart very quickly.
I like the color and tones in the mouth and the dog in front with some nice detail you brought out. Well handled lightning situation .
What i am not sure of , is the almost mono look and feel to rest of the image , if this was mine i would go slightly warmer in those areas . But this is just a minor personal thing.

Hi Rachel, certainly this dog flosses too, based on those pristine, pearly whites.

Nice detail and you almost feel yourself falling into the mouth .

Andreas these dogs were under shade, so light will vary, offering at times a mono look & feel to the BKG, but Rachel will have a better handle on it as it's her image, I can only go from recollection.

Thanks Steve , as you know i am sitting in my comfy chair and look at images and have my thoughts on each of them , so i could be wrong . But even not having been there i feel (personal) a bit of warmth would give different feeling if wished by the author , if not ok too .
Actually it is not only the BKG that looks kind of mono , also the dog in front looks kind of mono in parts , all looking good as presented if wished . Just see it slightly different .

BTW just looked again at your image from the same location i think , and yours is less mono . So i got the idea it was not that mono actually just a different interpretation of the same scene .

    Cheers Andreas

Thanks Andreas and Steve. Yes, they were in the shade and I think this accurately reflects the lighting and feel.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Loving the view of his breakfast ...
Good call going portrait mode here Rachel. Did you burn the left ear (our RHS) a bit? Looks washed out in parts?

Thanks Morkel, nope, no burning at all. I'm not sure what you are seeing.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel
