I haven't had much time to photograph the shorebird migration so far, but here's one from earlier this week when I had an hour or so to spare near my place. That beach was rather empty, thanks to the city hiring someone with a drone helicopter to spook all the geese away...and along with it gulls, herons, and shorebirds away from the public beach (heaven forbid there are birds in a wild place they built a park in!!)...but the birds slowly simply return once that fella is gone from his early morning shift.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/640s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, small crop to help the composition, toned down and gave more saturation to the bright blue BG.

    Daniel:

Elegant fellow, with pleasing pose, good shooting angle, soft bg. The comp balances well with the mass of the bird against the shoreline and tan colors above.

    Cheers

Hi Daniel - I agree with Randy, "elegant" was the first word that came to my mind as well. I really like the soft colors of the bg too. Great low pov and detail.

Lovely Daniel, The colors are very pleasing. Light and exposure look just right. Sorry to hear about the drone. I wonder what the long term effect may be.

I agree with the previous comments. The simplicity of the image and the soft tones make for a most pleasing image.

Foreground... interesting with just enough interest to give this image a good 'base'.... BG: Serene, lovely and complementary to the bird. Bird: The slightly uplifted left leg is really nice as is the slightly tilted HA, and detail is just right.

I too like this style of bird photography :) And I love shorebirds. The soft light and the head turn rock this one.
