    Default Icons of Mana Pools

    Hello all,

Just returned from an epic 12 night adventure in Mana Pools.
"Blown away" and "Awe-struck" have been my two favorite terms since then

The light in this patch of land is something else, especially around the floodplain....a blue haze from the Mopane woodlands and Albida forest coupled with the golden light at dawn/dusk and prolific wildlife makes for quite a spectacle!
This forest is magical, to say the least!

@ Morkel, am jealous as you're headed there again next week....you'll likely be camping at Old Ndungu and hope you have all the fun with the wild dogs there. This one is from a sighting from the Long Pools area that I told you about.

Amazing how time flies and how one can get consumed by life. In between a growing family and extensive work, I've been out of action in posting images for a while now. Still have a sizable amount of images from my last trip in 2012 (Etosha) and will try to find a rhythm in PP and BPN postings!

    Specs:
    Canon 5D Mark III
    Canon 300mm II + 2.0III
    f/5.6, @ 1/800s, ISO 1600, EV +2/3
Sighting occurred during the golden hour and the dogs kept shuttling between shade and light. Knowing the capability of 5D Mark III, I did not mind keeping the ISO at 1600.

    Comments always welcome!
    Cheers
    Shreyas

I like this a lot Shreyas, the lone WD comp, B&W conv and pose is very compelling!

I would like to see the WD slightly less central and would take out the small top section of frame with the darker patches, it could use some more work on the blacks in the WD, all easy fixes.
    Nicely done!

I must do a trip out to Mana Pools but can't get away from my love of Sth Luangwa, both areas share similarities in habitat, you'll like SLNP Shreyas if you haven't been.

    TFS

Classic MP scene 'from other images I have seen, as I have never been there myself' I would go a little tighter with the comp and take some off on the left and try reduce the brightness on the BG. Nice detail in the subject. I don't know much about monochrome images but feel this one could do with more contrast.

Hi Shreyas - Good to see you posting again and I'm looking forward to seeing more images from both your trips. It's always nice to see a wild dog out in the open and it's a nice pose. Marc and Dumay have pretty well summed up my thoughts as well. I would definitely take some off the left, lose the dark spots at the top and give the dog a bit more punch. Btw you can post 900px high.

    TFS,
    Rachel

    Aaah, you've started posting
I am headed back there, but only for 5 days - you had 12. Mana is a place you need to spend time in...

I concur with comments made above - this repost shows what can be achieved with a slight crop from top and left, and some tonal contrast added to the dog through dodging and burning.
Looking forward to more from your trip (specifically this one!) as you find time

    Hi all,

Thanks for the input. The dodging/burning does bring it up a notch so thanks for the suggestion, Morkel!

@ Marc, SLNP is high up the list and the images from the park makes it even more enticing. You don't know how bad you want to get to Mana though

    Cheers

Same here Marc, but yes - people who've been to both would tell you the parks are not really the same.

Hi Shreyas, I like the conversion, nice tonal range with excellent detail. The crop for me doesn't quite grab me, would prefer more of a vertical, portrait format with the subject being slightly larger in frame, just my take.

    Hope to see more.

    Hi Shreyas

I absolutely love this one. A great portrait and really shows of those long legs. For me I like the bright background that makes the subject stand out. I like more the first more central composition. Maybe Steve is right, that a vertical will be good.

So good to see you posting again, Shreyas! I absolutely love this, what a great sighting and your B/W certainly works for me! Morkel's RP sorted out the crop and added a bit more "punch", well done and I am very excited to see more from your trip!!!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea
