A blue Waxbill arrived at the drinking edge for his afternoon drink. After shooting many birds of diverse species, drinking and bathing in some really fantastic light, I wanted to get a little more creative and create an image that game the impression of backlighting by a spotlight at night, however for this image i used my camera setting to create the darkness and then backlit the waxbill by using a remote flash.

    Backlit images are always tricky.
I like your inventive way to create the backlit effect.
I really like the way the rim of the pond has been lit up and the unusual reflection.( It reminds me of an ultrasound examination!)
My problem with this image is that I would like to see more of the eye/face to connect me to the waxbill,

Hi Brendon, cool to see something different. Nice an arty! I think it works. I like the reflection and the mood created. Thanks for sharing!

    Brendon:

Full marks for thinking outside the box on this one. I do agree with Gail about a bit more light on the face. That would really up the impact for me.

    Cheers
