    Default Leopard

This is another image of Ntsongwaan a.k.a. Topsy Turvy, the then 30 month old male son of Nthombi, the leopard in Steve's recent image. This was as he crossed the dry riverbed in the Timbavati Game Reserve, South Africa. I'd probably prefer if it was all sand at the top but if I crop it's too tight and I won't clone.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

I love the tail and the paw up. IQ looks great and I thin the low light/overcast conditions worked in your favour. Blacks look great and the Leopards colours seem spot on.

Whew Rachel, but you got a some look there from the leopard! I think the techs are spot on and your PP work is great

Regarding the top, how about painting with soft light (at low percentage) a colour picked from the BG, would this be a more acceptable alternative to cloning or cropping? Just to soften that bit?

    I love Topsy-Turvy

Have a great week, I am off to Johannesburg on Wednesday and not sure whether to take my laptop along, this website is slowly taking over my life and I am becoming a hermit

    Warmest regards,

Hi Rachel, he certainly performed to camera and a great specimen too. You can't help but love the curved 'follow me' tail. Agree that having the river bed sand as the overall backdrop, but I don't feel it's a deal breaker. I like the hint of tongue, head slightly to camera and the stretched paw as he walked along the river bed, tummy looks quite full too.

    Hi Rachel,

Would agree with the others the tail and paw up add to the image's good IQ.

Personally I find the sand a little warm/yellow, which I think if you knocked back, would help the leopard pop. Have attached a RP with some burning on the sand to bring out a little more texture too.

    Hello again

Had to look at Topsy Turvy again, just to brighten my Monday at work...The leopard and the sand make me think of the Kalahari.

    This is so lovely, Rachel

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and suggestions. I'm glad you like this one of my favorite leopard. Sorry Russell but I think your treatment of the sand is way off. You've made it look wet and heavy, almost like cement. I feel the softer texture and yellow color of the op is much more accurate.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel , nice leopard shot very good processed /captured from the 7D , i must say you really have a hand for this cam , compared to other posts with the same body .
Like Steve i like the curled up tail and the look to the camera .You have nice overall tone/contrast and the colors are looking natural to me.
Maybe , i was not there , i would knock back the yellows , in the sand or the leopard , it all looks very close ?
Saying this from my comfy chair .

Thanks Andreas. The IQ on the 7D is great so long as the image is properly exposed. If the exposure is off too much in either direction that's when the problems come in, especially if it is underexposed. It's just not as forgiving a camera as some other bodies and some things can't be corrected in post without it affecting the IQ.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Rachel, very nice image with superb IQ despite the high ISO. I like the framing too.

Love the eye contact here, Rachel, great IQ too. Pity about that top strip but it's no deal-breaker.
Although I don't mind your OP sand, Russel's RP has made the leopard stand out nicely...
