A big Black Rhino, having a wallow in some mud by the roadside. I was able to park my SUV such that I could get a low perspective here, given the concave shape of the road.

    Techs:
    Nikon D800
    Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
    f8.0 | 1/1250 SS | ISO-400

Good details, techs and toning in the conversion Morkel, the slight vignetting suits here as well.

Hi Morkel - I agree with you - the low pov works great. Excellent details and texture too. For some reason, the coffee/sepia toning feels a bit too strong here to me. I'd also like a little more room below. Any chance you have some wider images of the whole rhino in the wallow?

    TFS,
    Rachel

Very nice one, Morkel. Agree with the eye, that is a good capture. I think you are a master of b/w conversion. I really like the tone and the slight vignette.

Thanks Rachel. I'm happy with the toning. I do have a smidge more space below but it's OOF road and didn't add to the comp for me.
I do have wider shots as well (70-200mm) but he's literally on the side of the road so you get the hand-of-man feeling in those.

Cheers Marc. The vignette is quite natural, came out pretty much that way with the toning/colour filter I applied - the variation between wet and dry gravel and the bushes coloration.

What a stunning rhino and great (rare) eye contact. Love the conversion and details / texture you brought out in the skin and horn. Let's hope this one survives and lives in peace.

Hi Morkel, good thinking in the placement of the vehicle to achieve the perspective. Would have liked a tad more below, but understand the reason why you did what you did.

Agree with Steve and I love the conversion, nice contrast and a touch of sepia.
