Most bay area photographers would know about this place where Forster's tern feeding happens on the same old rock every summer, and last year was no different. One fine day, as we were waiting for the feeding moment, the parent occupied the rock overthrowing the juvenile. I guess he realized that the juvenile is ready to fledge and denied feeding. This image is shot when the juvenile was doing a hunger strike against his dad. Next day, we saw him flying with his dad, probably for hunting, and we didn't see him back on the rock again!

Great low angle, exposure, and dynamic poses. The flared tail is sweet. I wish for better eye contact from the juvie but I know how tough it is to get two perfect head angles. It could also use some more space on the right.

Is this at radio road ponds?

Cool. I have been there in the spring before and it was awesome, might have to check it out in the summer! Should be pretty easy to add more space on the right if you want to.

    Looking forward to more!

    Sridatta:

Good comments from Aidan. Neat story telling, the eye contact with juvi is OK for me because of his contact with the adult, fits the situation. Yes to more room on sides, worth a go to add a bit.

    Well exposed.

How far were you from the action?

    Cheers

Great action captured, Sridatta. Nice work getting this almost FF without clipping a wing. Another vote for just a tad more on both sides. I love the poses and the two-tone background; and the story.

What a great story and image to go with. When I first examined the image, I had a feeling the story had something with fledgling and the young tern's "displeasure." Maybe a tad more room on the right would be helpful but I feel as though this frame is very special as is. Your light was terrific and the color scheme here and story are powerful.

This happens pretty close to the shore. I was probably 15m far or so..

Beautiful color and action in this frame. The detail and exposure control look perfect and the BG colors are awesome. The size and shape of the rock look great too. If the juvie had a bit better HA......:)
