Well, sadly today is the opening day to shoot this little fellow, the Red Grouse. All the 'Ghillies' (or gamekeepers) have been hard at work preparing for today, based on what was happening with my little spot for these guys, however they must have known, as they were keeping their distance, the Red Grouse that is. I doubt if they will be out in the open like this over the coming months, but they do need to be kept in check.

Thanks to those who viewed & commented on the previous image.

Beautiful bird, nice pose, great image. It's too bad that some of them will be shot.

A fine image excellent detail and just about no noise. I like the regal looking pose - well done.

Don't like the idea of shooting these birds, other than with a Nikon...or a Canon.

Love the colours Steve, those rich browns in the feathers culminating with the lovely red brow above the eye. Well captured and processed, and do I detect a possible intention from you to portray this bird as defiant, under the circumstances?

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Nice looking alert pose for this handsome grouse. The exposure and detail are perfect. Too bad about opening day as I am sure they will be allot more flighty. Well done and good luck.

William, ensure it's just the one, wee dram.

Hi David, they are breed for shooting and can be quite feisty little characters, they chased after the car a few years back, cheers.

I like the vertical presentation and the fine feather details and texture. Good short grass habitat. A fine image of this beautiful species.
