...and the conservation awareness days keep coming :)

    Today is World Elephant Day!

As a wildlife photographer living in Africa, I have a big passion for the conservation of elephants. The mission of this initiative is to spread awareness, share knowledge, and provide solutions for better care and management of both captive and wild elephants.

If you want more insight into the intelligence and social behaviour or elephants, please do check out Elephant Voices and their website:

According to Christina Russo writing for the Huffington Post:

"The slaughter of Africa's elephants for their ivory is leaving a devastating number of casualties: some conservationists cite as many as 50,000 are being killed annually. It's a full-on massacre. It's a genocide, actually, if you are gutsy enough to call it what it is."

The only creature that should have ivory in its possession is an elephant!
This youngster was photographed being silly in the woodlands of Mana Pools, Zimbabwe.

Hi Morkel - cute pose to celebrate World Elephant Day. Maybe a little tight at the bottom but otherwise it works for me.

    TFS,
    Rachel

OK Morkel, how much did you pay him to pose like that? Nice!

Awww, he is so cute, all the way from the trunk to the little hairs on his knee - nice detail Morkel, love the wrinkles on the ellie's skin and the pose is just fabulous!

Comical and with great appeal, this image really makes me think of places I would like to travel to, some of them (or most of them) in Africa, where wildlife seems to be a little more satisfying than in many other places

I dare say taking off a bit from the top would make it less obvious that this needs more space at the bottom - love this anyway, brilliant shot and it will stay with me for some time, you are such an inspired photographer Morkel and so "in tune" with your subjects, very well done!!!

Hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow,
    Gabriela Plesea

thanks for your very kind words, friends
Gabriela, I do have some space at the bottom but that part was much darker and drew the attention away from the subject, so I cropped it out.

Love the semi hand stand on this little one Morkel, with a BG that says it came from the Zim/Zam area.

We can't stress enough the importance of both keeping both lion and our elephants (amongst many others) in the wild for many generations to come.

Hi Morkel a great circus act in the wild . Must have been great to see this in reality.
I am fine with it all around , but agree with Steve regarding the blues.Sadly there is some sunlit OOF grass in FG , but no deal breaker .

Thanks for sharing this great stuff .

Blues look fine to me Morkel, reducing further takes out any resemblence of the coat tone and becomes a washed out grey, it looks completely natural to me buddy.

Let's get out of the science lab, off our chairs and outside.
