    Default Theme: Mind is Moving

Greetings. I submitted a regularly processed version of this some years ago for a blur theme (back in the days when Denise Ippolito was moderator) . The title is the conclusion of the Zen Koan, Huineng's flag.

I used a number of filters to get here, a couple of B&W conversions with Nik Silver Efex and PS. I also programmed a filter for something like, well, the inverted hue distance from green - where green is white and monochromatically darker as the hue difference is greater. Subsequent blends brought back some of the original luminosity (shadows). Pink and Yellow fill layers with advanced blending modes to yellow the highlights and pinken the darks. Some extreme color balance layers in there as well. Some overly dark/contrasty spots cloned out. Anyway, some programming fun with mapping hue to an alternate map that I'll be developing further.

Oh, the original is a 1/8 second exposure at f/29 ISO200 at 340mm focal length (200mm with a 1.7 TE) of wind swept deep, long grasses shot into the sun. Thanks for looking.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Very, very nice -- both the shot and the processing! Sounds like part of it is a bit of a twist on split-toning.

Thanks, Diane. Split toning more or less for the color... took a while to figure out where the blending options were in PS because I hadn't used them in a while (right click on the top image in the layers panel, select blending options...) Used the Blend if Gray sliders to choose between yellow and pink versions. This works here to split tone the midtones (which are blended) but use one layer for the darks and the other layer for the brights which are selectively not blended with the sliders.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Very nice result Michael. I love the colours and the gentle sway of the grasses. Your analogy is very intriguing

This is lovely, Michael. I can almost feel the wind. And the colors are calming and inviting. Really nice.

I like the strong feeling of movement in this image. Also, the designs created by the moving grasses. To my eye, there is a lot of action on the left side near the edge, which feels cut off. I'd like to see more on the left (but you probably don't have any more there), or, perhaps crop some from the left. Not sure. Very strong feeling of movement.
