    Today is World Lion Day...
World Lion Day is an independent campaign working to highlight the importance of the lion globally and to raise lion conservation awareness worldwide.

"Saving the King of Beasts to Save Ourselves"

Lion numbers in the wild have plummeted drastically in the last 100 years. As Dereck Joubert, filmmaker of the film The Last Lions and director of Great Plains Conservation, puts it: "A hundred years ago we think there were over a million lions. When I was born, maybe 450,000 lions roamed these plains. Today we niggle over if there are 20,000 or 35,000 lions left and forget to look over our shoulders at history."

Hi Morkel - thanks for joining me with a World Lion Day post and for the links to additional information. Nice interaction and I like the smushed face. If it were mine I think I would give the midtones a boost for a bit more punch.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Beatiful shot of these majestic cats sharing a moment of 'brotherhood', Morkel! I surely hope that enough of them will be left in the wild to be adored by our grandchildren's grandchildren one day...

Super interaction between these two brothers Morkel! Like the expressiveness captured and the overall composition. TFS
