    Default Dwarf Mongoose

During my recent trip to our Kruger National Park, we unfortunately didnt see the cats, but saw lots of everything else. We were driving down a gravel road towards a dam when I spotted these two Dwarf Mongooses enjoying the morning sun. I knew if I tried to drive closer, they would have scurried away, and also trying to add on a TC, they may have also disappeared, so took my chances with just the 300mm. As I pointed my lens out the window, I managed a few shots before they scampered away. Decided to leave the little rock between them.

Hi Stu - IME these guys are very skittish so congrats on getting the shot and both of them looking at you. I totally understand what you are saying about not trying to get closer or take the time to add the tc. Looks like the light was already pretty harsh judging by the shadows but you handled it well. I like the inclusion of the rock because it gives a sense of scale.

Thanks a stack Rachel. Winter light at 9.40am. Have to take anything when driving around in in Kruger.

I like the perspective, the rock included. The shadows and blacks looks a little dark.

Stu, this is priceless! The eyes of the mongooses look like little diamonds and I love the expression you have captured - the characters look surprised and undecided and you have frozen the moment so well!!! Enough detail for me in that chocolate-brown fur and I am glad you did not clone out the little rock, it helps with the composition and leads the eye gently from one subject to the other. Well processed and presented, thank you for this post, enjoyed viewing!

    Kind regards,
