I converted this image of an iris to B&W / Infrared in Photoshop, moving around the sliders. Then I played around with Levels to get the contrast I wanted. I still thought it needed a little punch, so I applied a Cutout filter at 60% opacity.

Good job combining these filters for an IR effect! A nice mix of sharply contrasting details on the front petal & two side ones and the diffuse appearance of the remaining petals and bkgd. Iris flowers are wonderfully symmetrical, elegant, have interesting petals and always make a great compositional subject. There is one very bright spot on the left side near the stem that is distracting. Plus another near the right edge in the bkgd.
I love the look. I would love to see a wider version that includes all of the flower with a border. The textures are quite interesting.

Good thinking Wendy and a nice result. Good suggestions offered above, I particularly agree with a little more space on the right so we see the whole petal there. Nice looking image.

Thanks, all, for your input. Unfortunately, I didn't include the entire petal in the image. I may try to go back to the original image, increase the canvas on the right, and clone the rest of the petal. Then, hopefully I can recreate the IR and Cutout filters at the levels at which I originally applied them.
